In the latest video of our YouTube concert series – the Delia Sessions – we present the sweet voice of Hanin Shahir Al Ejla. The twenty-three-year-old Palestinian singer, who is still in the early stages of her career, displays her beautiful voice and creativity. The repertoire contains modern interpretations of traditional Palestinian songs highlighting the beauty of Arabic music heritage. Hanin’s voice is inseparable from what she is part of – the Gaza youth – representing a new generation of talents hoping for better days.
The performance was recorded live from the Bet Setti Café in the heart of Gaza City. Despite the difficulties of living in an area isolated by the blockade of the Gaza strip, the whole production was accomplished with a crew composed of local professionals. By supporting not only individual musicians but also filmmakers and producers, we are fostering a true economy that benefits the whole community.
We talked to Hanin about her experience as one of the featured artists of the Delia Sessions. Read it below.
1 – How would you describe yourself and your work for those who don’t know you yet?
I‘m an artist and ambitious person, I prefer songs of a calm nature and full of feelings, my voice is a way to communicate those feelings and the messages the song carries.
2 – When did you decide to become a musician?
My childhood dream was to become an elegant artist whose voice carries many meanings. Since my first step on the stage and after my first applause, I wanted to continue in this field.
3 – What Inspires You?
My endless passion and my constant love for music is the greatest inspiration. Music often improves my psyche and my feelings of peace. When I sing, listen, or play, whatever my feelings are, it’s always the best way to express them.
4 – What Are Your Biggest Musical Influences?
Fayrouz, Sana Musa, Dalal Abu Amna, and Abeer Neama.
5 – Which accomplishments are you most proud of, so far?
I My artistic career so far is short, but I’m continuing despite the social and political circumstances, which I consider my biggest achievement. I am very proud of my participation in many clips, in addition to teaching myself the rules of singing and Solfège.

6 – What’s your biggest dream as a musician?
My dream is to reach the world as a Palestinian voice that carries the message of humanity, love, and peace, and to leave a mark of me that I will be proud of in this field for future generations.
