Delia Arts Foundation – Scope of Work

The Delia Arts Foundation supports music in conflict zones and marginalized communities. We do this by creating opportunities for talented musicians to be heard by a broader audience, by providing training opportunities and building music industry infrastructure on the ground through our physical cultural centers. Our goal is to help create an economy where musicians, regardless of their socio-economic or geo-political background, can make music a full-time career. We also support the community by providing equal access to opportunities to be involved in the music field.

Target Groups

We support:

  • Talented young musicians:

We provide the tools, infrastructure and resources to enhance their chances in building a music career.

  • Community:

We give access to innovative music experiences to generate interest in music and music technology.

Vision

A peaceful world where all musicians can connect and support themselves through the mutual creative language of music, while enjoying an enabling environment within their communities.

Long-term Goals

We work to:

  1. Foster sustainable music economies supporting professional musicians in the locations where we work.
  2. Enhance the visibility and exposure of musicians and communities in conflict zones among international audiences.
  3. Provide access and equal opportunity to all community groups to engage in music experiences, enhancing the potential for joining the music professional community.
  4. Instigate support from local communities and from a large array of diverse sponsors, funders and international partners towards a better future for music in conflict zones.

Scope of Projects

1. Physical Spaces –

We aim to create a network of Delia Arts Centers across the MENA region and beyond, as vibrant hubs for co-creation and exchange in music.

  • Gaza, Palestine

The Center was launched in November 2020 and has been the go-to place for musicians who want to record, rehearse and take part in workshops.

  • Bukavu, DR Congo

The Center was launched in January 2022 in partnership with Ndaro Art Culture, a group of talented local musicians and in collaboration with Music Fund asbl, Kidogos and AfriScène. The Center will serve the locals through various artistic departments covering music, theatre, photography, poetry and others.

2. Outreach

We aim to create equal access to opportunities to all members of each community we serve.

  • Creative Corners

Creative Corners is an innovative new approach to music education, appreciation and awareness. By utilizing modern technology and holistic design, children are given free access to software and games, introducing them to a wealth of music knowledge, empowering their creativity, and intellect. The stations are put in areas where underprivileged children develop their interest in music. The Delia Arts Foundation will then respond to their needs to develop their interest by involving them in our core programs.

3. Capacity Building

From beginners to advanced, we provide training and workshops aimed to address the needs of the musicians in each region to bridge the gaps between music education and the skills they need to lead successful careers.

  • On-site Training

The Delia Arts Foundation is constantly creating training and workshops in our Delia Arts Centers and in partnership with local entities to support the needs of musicians with the help of local and international trainers. We aim to create a pool of local trainers who have the skills to train future generations and make our impact sustainable.

  • Online Training

The Delia Arts Foundation provides online training to musicians with the help of international experts. Our Centers also open their doors to musicians who do not have access to the internet and do not have the facilities to attend the training.
The Delia Arts Foundation is also working on pre-recorded online masterclasses that are accessible for free in multiple languages such as Arabic, French and English to ensure their accessibility to the communities we serve.

4. Exposure, Promotion and Exchange

The Delia Arts Foundation works on helping musicians launch their careers by promoting them, facilitating exchange opportunities and involving them in projects that give them a larger audience.

Online – Delia Sessions

The Delia Sessions is a YouTube series of five-minute live music shows showcasing musicians in the conflict zones and marginalized communities where we work.

Events

The Delia Arts Foundation actively engages musicians through our own digital and live events, festivals and events that we take part in. We also promote artists through our digital platforms and databases and by advocating for them in international showcases and conferences.

International Programs

We engage musicians living in conflict zones in international programs such as Ethno, a core program for folk music of the Jeunesses Musicales International, in an effort to widen their connections, exchange with other international musicians, represent their culture in small and large settings and build their capacities.

The Delia Arts Foundation aims at creating positive change in the lives of musicians and their communities in conflict and poverty zones, while promoting values of peace, tolerance, creativity and humanity.
