 Our Projects

DELIA ARTS CENTERS

After listening to the needs of the artists living in Gaza, it became obvious that the most urgent need is a space for musicians to come together in order to learn, rehearse, and record. We are in the process of building our first Delia Arts Center in the heart of Gaza City, Palestine, with an expected official opening in May, 2020. We hope to expand this program to other communities in the coming years.

DELIA SESSIONS YOUTUBE SERIES

The Delia Sessions, released on our YouTube channel,  is a series of five-minute live music shows featuring musicians in conflict zones and marginalized communities.

The recordings are filmed in small, intimate venues, giving viewers a front-row seat. Delia Sessions’ goal is to share music and build connections between these regions and new audiences that can only be reached through an international platform. This concept is based on a number of successful series of similar formats, such as those produced by National Public Radio in the United States (Tiny Desk Concerts).

MUSIC VIDEOS

In addition to the Delia Sessions, we are producing music videos with a humanitarian message. We hope they’ll help you get to know the regions where we work a bit better as well as the issues they face on a daily basis. These are filmed on the ground mainly by local production companies.

LINA SLEIBI - FI MAHAL (OVER THE RAINBOW)

This animated music video, featuring Palestinian singer Lina Sleibi, brings alive The Wizard of Oz characters in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. As they meet and interact, Banksy’s animated graffiti art on the separation wall in Bethlehem, viewers become familiar with the beauty and the harshness of Palestinian life.

Wafaa al Nejailly - ASFOUR (BLACKBIRD)

The Asfour music video was created and recorded in Gaza, despite the limitations of working in this region. It is a remake of the song “Blackbird”, written in 1968 by The Beatles, and features Wafaa al Nejailly, a 27-year-old nurse.

PALESTINE MUSIC EXPO, GAZA, SEPTEMBER 2020

The Palestine Music Expo (PMX) is in its fourth year in Ramallah in the West Bank, and the Delia Arts Foundation is spearheading the effort to bring it to Gaza. The goal of PMX is to provide Palestinian artists an opportunity to learn the skills necessary to grow the music industry. Through the conference, they see that it is not only about musicians and fans, but also about agents, record labels, copyright law, royalty arrangements, the digital community, social media, communications, logistics, night-time economies, the hotel industry and so on. With this knowledge the musicians can take steps to grow their own careers both in Palestine and internationally.

JM International Programs Ethno & More

As a member of JM International’s network, we are exploring the possibility of bringing their programs to the regions we work in. This includes Imagine competitions and Ethno camps, along with the new concept of “Ethno Studio” which would focus on recording studio workshops.
